The Yamazaki 18 Year Old is first and foremost a sherry bomb in your mouth. Once you recover from the blast, hints of vanilla and Christmas pudding notes appear that are amalgamated with chocolate-covered raisins or dried fruits.
This is a whisky that you curl up on the sofa while watching a movie with a plate of chocolate (Red Velvet Tim Tams in my instance) by your side.
Difficult to come across these days, but highly recommend you to try if you see it tucked away on a shelf somewhere.
Japanese Single Malts are epitomised by this whisky. Introduce this to a friend who isn’t into Japanese whisky, they’ll thank you for it.
